Why Weddings
We founded Allegro Photography in 2004 after having successful but unfulfilling careers in the academic, corporate and non-profit worlds. A shared love for photography brought us together in life and in work. What we soon learned, and what has sustained us, is we have an intense love for people and celebrations. The reason that we do what we do is our couples. We have met so many incredible people, shared countless amazing moments, and along the way, developed wonderful friendships. Weddings are such important milestones in the history of families- so joyous and beautiful. We continue to marvel at our good fortune in having such wonderful clients and the privilege to tell their stories.
What you will love about working with Jo….
by Dave
Jo has been known to sew a bride into her dress! “Costume malfunction,” the bride joked when the zipper on her Vera Wang gown got stuck so badly it was ripping the fabric. “Anyone know how to sew?” We immediately looked to the bridesmaids who all shook their heads vehemently. Oh boy. And no one wants that kind of responsibility. But there wasn’t any getting that zipper up without destroying the dress; the bride was about to leave for her ceremony. It was go time. It was a “Make It Work” moment, so that’s what Jo did. Quickly getting our bride sewn in and then back to the camera. Bustles, bow-ties and boutonnieres! After 200+ weddings, yup, she’s done those and more.
Jo has your back. She will watch out for you, making sure you not only look your best, but also have an amazing day. And then there’s her creativity, she will get a unique angle, show something different about each scene. After a wedding, I am always eager to see what she came up with. Plus she’s darn smart.

What you will love about working with Dave…
by Jo
Dave knew after photographing his first wedding in 2004 that there was nothing more gratifying than creating heirlooms of a family’s history. Having arrived in the US as a refugee from Vietnam in 1979, his family left almost all of their possessions in the rush to depart. Only a few family photos survived. They are, as you would imagine, priceless.
This experience informs Dave’s approach to photography and particularly to family celebrations. He is uniquely empathetic, has a calming quality and the ability to talk with people from all walks of life. His sensitivity to you and your family means he always captures the most touching moments. He watches, observes, and then intuitively knows what will tell your story best. He clearly loves what he is doing and is always smiling behind the camera. Plus he will make you laugh.
The Allegro Experience
How we do what we do is as important to us as the images that we create. The wedding day is a real life event, not a photo shoot with models. First and foremost the day belongs to our couple, their family, and their guests. Our goal is to capture the most amazing images and ensure that our presence enhances the experience, rather than detracts. Most of the time this means staying in the background and letting the moments develop naturally. As necessary, we offer the appropiate guidance but always in a manner that is supportive, positive and fun – it is a celebration after all!
“The wedding goes by in a heartbeat- which is what everybody says but you really don’t believe it- and let me tell you, it goes by in a heartbeat. And all you’ll have left is your experience of it… and pictures.”
Listen to Hillary and Scott talk about their Allegro experience.

The only concern that I had was the posed photos. I hate posed photos the most fun photos are the ones that you don’t know that you’re taking. The posed photos were fine. It was not stressful at all to me and the rest of the time I did not notice Allegro there at all. Every now and then I would hear a click. When I saw the pictures it just blew me away how good they were and how it seemed like they were in every moment and they were so close to everything that was going on.
Hillary:
Not only did they capture the moments that I remember so vividly but they also capture the moments that I didn’t see because you can’t be everywhere at once, except for them. We were both struck by the pictures so much and it felt like brought home what the day was exactly like.
Scott:
That’s the thing; it really captured the day in a powerful way. It was it was so worth the extra money.

Hillary:
I hardly ever saw them and I certainly didn’t notice… I never noticed them to the extent that it took away from that moment
Scott:
One of the things that was so great about Allegro is the personality and where they were coming from fit so well sort of where our heads were, as far as not high-strung, realizing that they’re there to perform a function. The wedding didn’t revolve around them or the pictures and doing their job in a way that was so supportive of what we were doing. That was really huge and I don’t think I really would have appreciated how huge that was until after and actually going to other weddings and seeing how it’s done.

Scott:
So I have have some friends who are getting married she asked me a few months ago about the experience I had with our photographer and she wanted look at the pictures. So I gave her the link to the website that had all the pictures and she looked at pictures….I found out last week that she actually chose Allegro and what she told me was that she loved the pictures, she was blown away by the pictures and also she didn’t even notice them when she was at our wedding. So I wanted to bring that up because you know as the bride and groom you don’t notice a lot. So the fact that we didn’t notice the photographers, it might not be significant on a large scale because you’re the bride and groom and there’s lots going on. But these were participants at the wedding, they didn’t see the photographers either. And so she was totally blown away by how good the pictures were and the fact that she never even noticed they were being taken.

What our clients are saying
Jo, Thank you so much for being such an integral part of our wedding day! I just wanted to let you know that you were more than just a photographer to me- you were my shoulder to lean on when I was a mess, my confidante when I freaked out and my friend- reassuring me that everything would be “okay.” Thank you for going beyond the scope of your job. And thank you for being the fairy godmother every bride should have!
Thank you so much for your amazing photos! Everyone who sees them says they look like magazine photos. That was exactly what we wanted! You were so easy to work with and we never felt like you were interrupting special moments. You captured our day beautifully! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Thank you for quite literally everything. Our wedding day was the most special, fun and beautiful day of our entire lives, and we owe so much to you both.
You captured priceless moments and helped us remember and cherish our wedding day from so many points of view. You kept us calm and comfortable, even when we forgot the veil and an extra bow tie- at least we’re consistent (ha ha). You gave us such great tips and pointers as we navigated the day, and we are forever grateful.
We gushed about the day throughout our entire honeymoon, and in particular how special and inspiring it was to watch you work together. You complement each other so well and are a true team. You made us (and our families and wedding party) so comfortable, and our photos are just stunning.
We are your biggest fans and would recommend any couple to work with you. Let us know if we can ever help. Thank you for everything!
Cheers!
