Destination Inspiration

When planning a destination wedding, it can be a challenge to bring all of the ideas you have together. With a unique location, inspiration is not the problem, but rather logistical details. Cassie and Dan had a beautiful vision for their wedding and selected the right team of people to bring it all together. Everything went off without a hitch, a pefect celebration on their much loved Martha’s Vineyard.

The pros:

Church: Old Whaling Church, Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard/ Reception: Dr. Daniel Fisher House, Edgartown, MV / After party venue: The Boathouse, Edgartown, MA / Getting ready location: The Wheel House at the Kelley House / Event Planning: Judy Murray of MV Event Planning / Bride’s hair and makeup: Sea Spa, Edgartown / Cake: Kim Garrison, Something Sweet / Wedding Gown: Priscilla of Boston, Boston, Mass / Bridesmaids’ Dresses:  Dessy Lela Rose Collection / Groom’s attire: Raymond Personal Tailor / Floral & Event Design: Donaroma’s Nursery / Entertainment (ceremony): Eric Johnson / Entertainment (reception): Jon Bates Band and John Alaimo, pianist / Wedding invitations: Goosefish Press, Boston, MA / Save the Dates: Vera Wang / Rehearsal dinner invites: Wedding Paper Divas

Getting ready- Dan at Cassie’s family home and Cassie at her hotel- offered an opportunity to capture details that set the tone for the day.

Jailhouse Rockin’ Party: Amanda & Greg

Party! That’s what “part deux” of Amanda and Greg’s wedding is all about. From the cocktail hour on the Liberty Hotel‘s 5th floor catwalk to the dancing going down inside in the ballroom to our own faux-to booth, designed and created by the lovely bride, fun was had by all.

Before Amanda and Greg joined their guests, we had to capture just one image. Love the levels in the Liberty, a great chance to play around with creative portrait ideas.

Cassie & Dan: Destination Home, Part 2

Cassie and Dan’s hometown destination wedding on Martha’s Vineyard was truly picture perfect. From the Chappy rehearsal dinner (photos to come) to the wedding day to the Sunday brunch, Edgartown’s waterviews, white washed buildings and picket fences, and amazing skies provided a gorgeous backdrop for their celebration.

Cassie & Dan: Destination Home

For Cassie and Dan’s wedding, location was everything. And rarely is the setting of the wedding so personal and meaningful, especially when it is a destination wedding. You see, Dan is from Martha’s Vineyard and Cassie’s family has a place on the island, so they have both basically grown up on its beaches. Of course, they also met there. Though they now live in Boston, their ties to this beautiful place are deep and unbreakable. It was truly the perfect location for their wedding. And now a peek at their magical day…

Dan got ready at Cassie’s parents’ house with the rest of the groomsmen, and their two pups. Tank smiles for the camera with Dan prepping in the background.

Cassie and her girls were at a hotel in town. The place had that special beach house quality to it. So when her flowers arrived, I thought it would be perfect to use the surroundings to show them off. Love the whimsy in her bouquet.

Amanda & Greg = Style & Wit

You may have already read about Amanda and Greg’s wedding on Style Me Pretty, but I wanted to share a few more of my favorite images and a bit more of their story here for our readers. And of course you can check out the story (and leave comments, etc) there as well.

Let me start by saying that Amanda and Greg are awesome. He was pretty laid back about all of the wedding stuff; she had definite ideas. And her ideas were amazing! Amanda is a lady all sewn up with style- from head to toe, truly. Her dress, her shoes, her hair, her make-up, her jewelry= stunning. The decor, the location, the food= fantastic. Throughout the planning, Greg provided the witty commentary that was needed to balance Amanda’s perfect vision.

When we were able to finally meet in person at their engagement session (virtual conversation up until then due to their living out of state), I knew their wedding was going to be an absolute blast. And it really was. These two set the stage for an incredible party; their friends and family obliged with energetic dancing and celebratory spirit. And it was a great way for us to conclude our 2011 wedding season. So let’s get to sharing some pics….

Attending the Royal Wedding

Yes, it’s true I am a Wedding Geek. I know a lot about weddings; I follow the trends; I get excited when new things are afoot. Still, I never thought of myself as a true wedding geek. I didn’t drop everything to read about Tom and Katie‘s wedding or the Clinton wedding. I just am not a famous wedding geek. But today was different. Today was about history. Today I woke up at 4am to "attend" Prince William’s wedding to Kate Middleton. And I am so glad I did.

To be sure, I was not alone in the insanity. Thousands upon thousands of people joined the celebration to varying degrees. And here in the western suburbs of Boston, a few of us ladies met up at SD Events to be a part of this particular wedding.

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-1

Tasha Bracken invited us to a very special breakfast. We came in our wedding finery, especially the hats, chatted, gazed, dreamed, laughed, and celebrated.

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-2

Oh, and we were joined by ABC News and the Boston Herald who came to document our shindig. (Let me know if you see me on TV. Who knows, I may be famous!)

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-5

Special note, the lady to the far left with the notebook is Anna Nieman, a wedding dress designer who creates custom couture gowns. This weekend, she will take this sketch and create a copy of Kate’s stunning McQueen gown. I can’t wait to see it!

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-4

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-6

Tasha’s color palette for the party was refreshing spring tones- pinks, purples, and greens.

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-9

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-7

The food was British inspired- tea, scones, and little tea sandwiches- the best of English food to be sure. Oh and there was also coffee, orange juice, and champagne. It was a wedding, after all.

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-3

For those who may have forgotten or didn’t own hats, Glam Couture provided a few special accoutrements for the gathering.

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-8

Tasha not only created the party for us, she created a table arrangement like what the royals might have at their reception. Fun, flirty yellow and white tulips with white feathers.

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-10

Set on a periwinkle blue tablecloth with silver and blue china; crystal goblets, some with silver trim to match. (Table settings provided by Be Our Guest). The whole look was stunning!

royal-wedding-sd-events-newton-ma-abc-11

What a morning! I can only say with heartfelt sincerity that I wish Will and Kate all the best. They seem to be a truly warm couple with obvious love between them.

Details, details, details. Oh and lots of delicious food.

Once the reception got started, Mollie and Matt’s stamp could be seen from every vantage point. The way they incorporate their Great Gatsby-esque theme was to infuse the day with gilded style.

The best of the rest from Mollie and Matt’s wedding: engagement session, sneak preview, and the scoop.

Inspired by Tradition

Just had to share all the fabulous details from Mollie and Matt’s wedding at the Crane Estate in Ipswich. For part one, I wanted to focus on the first half of the day, from the getting ready (ie personal details) and the church to just before the reception gets underway.

Mollie prepped at her grandmother’s home (a family tradition in and of itself) where she added special details to her own look and that of her bridal party.

Loving the something blue with the "I do" on her shoes.

And super sweet silver ballet slippers for her flower girls.

Mollie brought up a florist from New York, who also happens to be a family friend, to provide the beautiful floral. Love the shades of pink in her bouquet, as well as the mix of flowers.

Softness of her veil over her lace wedding gown.

Her wedding gown was a very special choice. And here’s what Mollie had to say about it: "It was actually the same dress Jennifer Garner wore when she got married in The Ghost of Girlfriends Past. Oddly enough that movie was filmed at The Crane Estate." How perfectly fitting!

And we can’t forget the boys. Matt looked dashing in his tux with the white calla lily boutonniere.

The ring bearer had his own look- a deep purple boutonniere for him.

crane-estate-castle-hill-wedding-inspiration-mm- ring bearer with dad and pink calla lilly boutonniere

One tradition I hope never dies (though I do love all the variations on this theme) is the lighting of the unity candle. I love that it represents two becoming one, and how it includes both families. Mollie and Matt chose a candle with a monogram.

Traveling in vintage style, Mollie and Matt selected a historic car for their travels.

The Scoop: Mollie & Matt

Excited to share the second part of Mollie and Matt’s beautiful wedding at the Crane Estate. They celebrated with the last bit of fall still in the air, and on the trees. After their ceremony at Mollie’s family church, they traveled to Castle Hill for their portraits and their reception.

The Fun of It!

When last I wrote, it was just before Thanksgiving and I wasn’t able to share all I wanted about Jen and Brian’s fabulous wedding day. So now, I can reflect back and share a few of my favorite memories from the day. Such as how excited Jen was, so excited in fact that she had already finished her make-up, put on her dress, put on her shoes before we even arrived. She simply couldn’t wait to get ready and get married. So fun.

And how nervous Brian was waiting for the ceremony to begin. And how they put a Patriots decal on the back of the limo, because Brian is a HUGE Pats fan. (I am sure he is feeling good today.) And how proud Jen’s dad was walking her down the aisle. All these special moments from the beginning of the day.

Now I also get to share a few favorites from the second part of the day, aka the Party. After the ceremony, we went directly to the hotel, because it was too cold to take any photos outside. Fortunately the downtown Hyatt Regency has some great spaces for portraits and there is only one wedding there a day, so we could use any of the spaces we wanted. We started with the quintessential grand staircase.

Jen has a great sense of style; she was absolutely beautiful from head to toe.

The groomsmen hung out with Brian upstairs while we were photographing the ladies.

Such an exciting entrance. You can totally see Jen’s enthusiasm pouring through; and I LOVE the way Brian is looking at her. These two couldn’t be happier to have gotten married.

They went right in to their first dance, which culminated with this stellar kissing dip. Sweet!

As part of the fun they had planned, they included a photo booth. The kids really got into all of the costumes and having their picture taken.

For that matter, so did the adults.

The adults also had an amazing time on the dance floor.

And best time ever…. Conga! I haven’t seen one of these in a while. Really so fab. They took their party all around the hotel.

Finally, have to conclude with this awesome shoe shot Dave captured at the end of the evening. (Feels right since we started the last post with a shoe shot. Bookends. ) It really incorporates so much of their day- love the colors, the fashion sense, and the people getting down on the dance floor in the background- all about the fun of it!
