Junior is growing up and his family is simply growing. He has a new sister now. Of course, that meant a great chance to document his family and the ways it is changing. We joined them for a Sunday morning at their home.
First off, meet our superhero. Very serious.
He can wrestle them (or hug them).

And he can fly.
He loves being with his family.
He watches over his little sister (or at least that’s what I like to call it).
She’s a cute little gal.
Itty-bitty.
And sweet coy smiles.
A few more… did I mention that Junior didn’t really like to sit still? Yup, not so much. His dad was having fun playing with him.
A recurring look on his face. Hilarious!

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of photographing the creative ladies of SD Events. Their team was growing and changing and that called for a new set of photos for this talented crew. So please allow me to introduce…
Tasha Bracken, the founder of SD Events, she not only has vision, but she is extraordinarily calm and organized. When I work with her, I know that my job will be that much easier because she has everything covered.
Next, please meet Ivy Finn. Ivy is the newest member of the team and is known for her unexpected ideas and her enthusiasm. She has created parties from fantistically fun bar and bat mitzvahs to sophisticated charity events.
And finally, Jessica Feroli. Jess is a talented event producer as well as keeping the office in tip-top shape. She loves all of the do-it-yourself projects that go along with event planning and brings her skills to the table with imagination.
The three hanging out in their studio.
If you are looking for a planner for your next event, I would highly recommend giving these ladies a call. They are based outside Boston and have worked around the world. They will wow you with their knowledge and inspired ideas!
Just to give you a taste of the excitement they can bring to an event, check out their studio. I love this space. It’s chic and modern and bold. Simply beautiful!

Love this San Jose family. Their older boy is full of energy and so engaging and his new baby brother is all about cuteness. We met up with them about a month after the little guy was born. We had a warm sunny California day. Their home and yard were the perfect backdrops for the portrait session.
Playing around.
Or trying at least.
Sleepy, sleepy.
Sweetness.
One more bit of fun. Anything for an orange.

For this family, change was part of their DNA. First the couple added their beautiful baby boy to the mix. Then they moved into a new home in Belmont, which they had custom designed. So when all of the changes were complete, it was time to have their portraits made in their new home.
The home offers amazingly beautiful light from oversized windows. We, of course, took advantage of that.
A few tidbits… hands.
Toes.
Tushee.
This little guy is a big ham. Such cuteness.
Smiles for his mom.
I wonder what he is thinking.
Smiles with his dad.
The many faces of our boy.
Mom and dad are into really cool old cars. It’s important to pass on the love.
Not so sure.
One last image… one of my faves. Weighing the baby.
I really can’t get enough of this little guy and his parents. We had so much fun hanging out, celebrating all their new adventures.

Coming together to celebrate a very special birthday, grandma’s 75th, this family wanted to document the three generations in a beautiful portrait. They were having lunch at the Boston Ritz and we figured it would be the perfect place to meet. Plus we had hoped to go to the Commons or the Public Gardens if the weather cooperated. Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate, but fortunately the Ritz did. The staff gave us access to their event spaces so we would have some privacy for the portraits. Window light added the beautiful glow. But all of the warmth definitively comes from this family.
To kick things off, the birthday girl…

Love this one.
Such personality.
Total hams. They had been asking to do this for the whole session and we were thrilled for them to finish it off with their daring feat.

The thing about being a photographer is that it is all too easy to miss documenting your own life. And even more challenging to create photos of you with your family. We knew we wanted photos with our Giant Schnauzer Max (we have tons of images of him, and tons of him with each of us, but very few with him and both Dave and I). We also knew we were not alone in needing photos with our beloved canine baby. Amy Hawkes of Click Imagery is a supremely talented photographer in the Boston area, and she has a fabulous furkid, Jaxon. So we proposed a trade.
On one lovely afternoon in June, we ventured to Wellesley College‘s beautiful gardens for family photography and then a bite to eat. And here we have a few of our faves from the session.
Amy and Jax, all smiles.
Sweet moment.
Love how Jaxon looks up at Amy. So expectant and attentive.
Amy has a great sense of humor. This one absolutely captures the amusement in her relationship with Jaxon.
More smiles.
Jaxon is a ball dog. And for those of you who have ball dogs, you understand the intensity involved.
Communicating about the ball.
A simple portrait of Amy’s best friend.
Dave was fascinated with Jax’s squirrel like tail. (I imagine this was because Max didn’t have one, but I can’t be sure.)
We left the cover of the trees for the warmth of the grasses. Jaxon has beautiful bright brown eyes.
Another thing about Amy, she’s a competitive runner and triathlete. So she and Jax often enjoy jogging together.
Oh and a super cute High 5 trick.
One last image, I think this is Dave’s favorite from the whole furkid session. So funny and whimsical.

Many thanks to Amy and Jaxon for spending the afternoon with us in Wellesley and being such great models. We love you guys!

A shared history and personalities that fit just so, Junnie and Wing are definitely starting their baby-to-be off on the right foot. Both Junnie and Wing were born in other countries but came to the US as young adults. They found each other at their church and realized they each filled in the others’ gaps, just like matching puzzle pieces. A perfect example- Wing is the artist and graphic designer; Junnie is the financial organizer and accountant. They are the yin to the other’s yang. Their little one is lucky to have such a great balance from the get-go.

We met up with Junnie and Wing to photograph their maternity session on a cool October afternoon. Starting off in Boston‘s beautiful Beacon Hill neighborhood.
And did I mention how adorable these two are? Good genes indeed.
The blue skies were intermittent so Dave made sure to highlight them when we saw them.
Loving this photo of Junnie.
We made our way to the Boston Common for a little greenery and in the hopes of some fall color.
Making a wish…
We found the greenery. Autumn leaves were more elusive.
One of my absolute faves over at the Public Garden. An abstract family portrait.
We had such a great time hanging out with these two. Highly recommend checking out their slideshow cause these two were so sweet and even brought props for their session. Enjoy!

For Emily and Yeung, the traditions and celebrations continued from morning to night. When last I wrote, I left off just as the Western wedding ceremony was beginning.
They included their own personal touches, such as the blending of colored sand.
After the ceremony, we toured around Boston to capture some great portraits of the newlyweds and their bridal party. We started at the Church of Scientology. Loving the trees surrounding the fountains when you first enter.

Then we headed over to Copley Square, just with Emily and Yeung, and took a few by the John Hancock and then the Trinity Church.
We finished up in Chinatown where the banquet would be held. And perhaps my favorite image, on the ramp of the parking lot above the Chinese Restaurant. You never know where you will find something fun and playful.
Soon the party got started. They kicked off the evening with a slideshow. Here the bridal party watches and enjoys.
They worked really hard on the choreography for their first dance. Showing off their moves….
Yeung took on the task of opening the champagne.
One of my favorite Chinese traditions are all the games. This crew put a twist on the evening. Instead of Emily and Yeung having to perform (at least at first), the guests had to complete challenging tasks (such as moving an ice cube from one tray to another with only a pair of chopsticks) in order to get Emily and Yeung to kiss. This lady was successful!
Emily’s maid of honor toasted the newlyweds, making everyone laugh, then cry.
It wouldn’t be a crazy chinese wedding without karaoke. This crew got together to share a song for the bride and groom.
Bouquet and garter tosses? Well they don’t happen quite as often as they used to, but when you get the right crew, they can be a lot of fun.
And then a new custom, perhaps. The gent who caught the garter put on a show for the lady who caught the bouquet. He happens to be a black belt and his moves were amazing.
He wasn’t the only one with great moves. Here’s another guest, putting on a show for our bride (now wearing one of her Chinese dresses). Loving it!
What a great day, full of fun and traditions!
Congrats and thanks go out to all the professionals who helped make Emily and Yeung’s day so special.

When Kristina let me know that she had bid on and won our portrait session at the Junior League auction, I was thrilled. I had been working with Kristina on a volunteer project and knew she would be great to photograph. After talking with her, I was even more excited to meet her family. They did not disappoint. Her parents are warm and engaging. Her brothers are full of energy. And her fiance is a total sweetheart. Plus this crew really, truly enjoys spending time together.
We chose the beach for the backdrop of the family portrait. This crew basically lives on the beach- hanging out, sailing, relaxing. We started off our session with the more formal portraits by the cabana.

When I talked with Kathy, Kristina’s mom, about how the family spent their time on the beach, the first word out of her mouth was "Kubb." I was a little confused as I had never heard that word before. As it turns out, kubb or koob is a favorite game in Sweden. It’s a combination of chess and bowling or croquet. I have to admit, I still don’t fully understand, but honestly, it was such fun to watch. Everyone was definitely into the game and it illicited shouts of triumph and joy, as well as truly genuine smiles.
The twins fooling around. There was a lot of that.
The "kids" celebrating a game well-played.
Then we got back to the business at hand. Loving the crew on the cliff wall. Seriously humorous.
Dave put together this triple panorama of the crew.
We were losing our beach to high tide so we popped on down for a bit of sand and sea.
Sometimes we get a little silly. Which is fun.
But more importantly, everyone relaxes again, and the smiles become completely natural.
One of my absolute favorites from the session.
Thank you to Kathy, Peter, Kristina, Matt, Christian and Pierson. We had such a great time with you on this beautiful afternoon.
Definitely check out the slideshow for more from this portrait session at the beach.

For Emily and Yeung, we kicked off the day with a few Chinese traditions. Emily was tucked away in their new house with her close friends and family. Yeung and his boys arrived to "break in" and get to his bride. And they came bearing the flowers. Very nice!
From the inside, I could catch glimpses of the groomsmen as they tried to negotiate their way in.
And I was able to spend a little time with Emily, as she observed the boys’ efforts from above.
And also capture a few details, such as the shoes she wore with her Xi-pao.
Eventually the boys were allowed inside. Yeung wasted no time; he jumped over the barricade on the stairs and rushed towards his bride with flowers in hand.
Emily greeted Yeung with smiles and the two of them joined their guests downstairs for the traditional tea ceremony. It was followed by a few portraits. Here, a silhouette of our bride and groom.
It was then time to head to the hotel where they would host their Western ceremony. Emily had a room where she could change into her white wedding dress.
Her girls helped get her into her ballgown.

Love that smile.
And check out the necklace she chose, such a great match for her gown.
Yeung and his groomsmen also had some touching up to do.
As soon as everyone was ready, they prepared for the ceremony to begin. Yeung waited at the end of the aisle and the guests peered anxiously towards the door for Emily’s entrance.
I leave you with that little cliff hanger. More to come soon from the ceremony, portraits and their Chinese banquet.
