The Chanler at Cliff Walk was the perfect location for Becky and Danny’s Newport destination wedding. It provided an elegant backdrop to their intimate wedding celebration.

What an exciting week it has been! I can’t wait to share more about what we have been up to. But I just got some great news. Two fabulous sites in the blog-o-sphere have featured us.
A huge thank you to Dynamite Weddings! I was really excited to share Kate and James’ wedding with them. And they did a fabulous job highlighting their story- the chemistry, the romance, the joy. You can check it out here.
We also found out that Soul Mating highlighted us under their Top 100 Wedding Planning Blogs. You can find us under the “Advice” section. We are thrilled that our readers are enjoying what we have to say and so excited to be a part of this list which includes some of our favorite blogs — Elizabeth Anne Designs, {Ritzy Bee}, Style Me Pretty, Weddingbee and Southern Wedding Style, and of course a couple of other great photographers, Critsey Rowe and Jessica Claire. What an honor!

One of our readers asked us to share a few of the details from Kate and James’ wedding. I thought that was a great idea and will try to do a "details" post when I can. So here’s the first of more real wedding details entries to come.

The show at Skera showcased a number of wedding gowns I have recently designed and reconstructed. More and more couples are choosing to make their weddings into unique expressions of their personalities, values, and experiences. In my work I have seen brides expressing an increased interest in restyling vintage gowns -particularly those belonging to a cherished family member and in creating a bridal look that is less traditional (think less fairy princess and more red carpet). In many cases, if a family heirloom is damaged or cannot be successfully reworked elements of the original piece may be incorporated into the contemporary dress. Color has also been a major trend.

One new trend in wedding photography is a “Trash the Dress” session. It’s a fashion style newlywed shoot in which the bride (and sometimes the groom) get all dressed up again. Then they go places they couldn’t have or wouldn’t have gone on their wedding day. And pose for shots in the water, on the ground, or up a tree. Not many women choose to literally trash their dresses, and many can see the appeal. After all, it is a great chance to wear the dress again.

On the wedding day, brides and their attendants and their families are concerned about keeping the dress clean- for the pictures and for everyone to see the bride at her best. I know how that is. I didn’t want to get wet and dirty on my wedding day either. And of course, I wanted to look good in the pix.

When he is not designing events for celebrities such as Jennifer Lopez, Elton John, Barbara Walters and Kenneth Cole, David Tutera can be seen hosting not one, but two, TV shows, The Party Planner on The Discovery Channel and Get Married on Lifetime. David is also the creative genius behind Disney’s Couture Wedding Collection and in his spare time, the author of four books on party planning. David graciously invited Critsey Rowe and I into his fabulous Manhattan apartment for a private portrait sitting. Not surprisingly David is quite at ease in front of the camera and we all had a great time.

If you are looking for the ultimate in invitations, I’ve got the place for you…. It’s Ceci New York. We met with Lisa Hoffman, Founder and Creative Director of Ceci New York, at her studio last week. We had heard about her work but having seen it in person, Critsey, Thomas and I were completely blown away.

Perhaps my favorite part of wedding planning and the part I am sure I didn’t get enough of was the cake tasting. Of course, now we go to the bridal fairs (see entries- Bay State Bridal Expo, Westin Copley Place Bridal Expo, and Western New England Bridal Show) and we get to taste bits of cake from around the state. Hooray!!!! I have enjoyed a lot of cakes recently. And I would have to say that Konditormeister makes a mean chocolate cake and Ivy’s Fine Cakes and Pastries makes one awesome lemon. But it isn’t just the taste that is important for a wedding cake. It has to look amazing, too. And people’s imaginations run wild, especially after watching shows like The Ace of Cakes. So the cakes have become a showcase of someone’s style.

Check out these beauties by Deb from Cakes by Deborah. Read the rest of this entry »
