The theme for their wedding is La Vie en Rose, so Emily wanted to incorporate flowers into their engagement session. The Elizabeth Gamble Garden has a lovely rose garden, plus lots of other great options as well. One of my favorite spots in Palo Alto.

They also wanted to hit the Cantor Arts Center on Stanford’s campus. This gave them a more cosmopolitan feel. Emily changed into a special outfit for the occasion. She is wearing the dress she wore when James proposed.

So love this photo. They are dancing and I caught this mid-twirl. Sweet!

Suzanne had been visiting her family at the time, but was living in Southern California. A friend took her to this neighborhood bar for a drink. A friend of Andy’s happened to bring him to the same bar. It’s the kind of bar that really is meant for the locals and probably sees a lot of the same faces. Not the kind of place you would expect to meet your future spouse, or even someone new. Neither Suzanne nor Andy went to the bar to fall in love, but love is what they found.

Fast forward to this summer. Suzanne and Andy are busily preparing for their wedding at Stone Tree Golf Club. We took a few hours to enjoy the city they have spent so much time in and create engagement photos for them. San Francisco gave us all its blustering cold dripping wet fog (yes it was gruesome) and Suzanne and Andy gave us smiles and warmth. It was a perfect night.

We started off in North Beach (for those touristy types, that’s the Italian district in SF) and wandered along the streets. Both Suzanne and Andy had lived in the neighborhood at various points in their lives so had strong ties to the area.

Of course, we had to head over to the scene of the crime. So we hopped in their car and drove to Russian Hill where that neighborhood bar, The Buccaneer, is located. Could this be how it all started?

They hadn’t been back since their first anniversary, which made it even more fun to relive their story. As it turns out, the same bartender was serving up drinks the night they met and the night of our shoot. I think all the memories brought out even a bit more romance.

We had so much fun and now we can’t wait for their wedding in just a few short weeks. This was just a smattering of all the amazing photos we were able to get of this awesome couple. I would definitely recommend checking out their slideshow for more from Suzanne and Andy’s SF e-session.

We also wanted to capture a little bit of Cambridge for them, as that’s where the live now.

Crazy amazing skies juxtaposed by crazy fast cars and our couple focused completely on each other.

Now on campus. So many beautiful architectural details and interesting buildings to get cozy by.

We all loved the brownstones. Though Neil didn’t get to live in one while he was an undergrad, we couldn’t help dreaming about what it would be like. So we decided to claim one for our shoot.

After the daydreaming came some play time. I think Neil won this thumbwrestling match. But I am sure it was close.

We ended up at this super cool sculpture as the sun was giving us glorious light. I like how they are wrapped up in each other and the sculpture is wrapping around them.

Becky and Neil, we absolutely can’t wait for your wedding at the Museum of Science. It is going to be fabulous!

We started off in the North End, for a really beautiful and quaint bit of Boston. We were lucky enough to enjoy near-perfect weather. So we wandered and strolled and found some quiet nooks and a few more public spots for a wide variety of surroundings.

Monday was a great night for the shoot as it also happens to be the night that many restauranteurs take a break. We had the doorway to this little Italian restaurant all to ourselves.

At the edge of the North End, you also get a unique view of Boston.

We then took the Charlestown Ferry across the river at sunset. The light was beautiful, the wind cool, and the views amazing. I am so glad Dave suggested this- what a great way to enjoy the water and the cities on both sides.

Once in Charlestown, we walked along the pier and captured a few images of Maren and Steve enjoying the scenery, the breeze and each other.

We took a break as the dusk turned to night and enjoyed a meal at a favorite Tavern overlooking the water. Then ventured out for a few more on the pier.

As promised, there was dancing.

We can’t wait for their wedding at the Glen Manor House near Newport.

We had a great time dodging puddles and Christina and Vincent were adorable cuddling up in doorways. Besides it actually is perfect that a little weather reared its head as Vincent is a weather afficionado, a storm tracker, if you will. So the day ended as it should with a show of Mother Nature’s wonderous ways and the four of us laughing a lot.

Of course, the rain also helped clear out the extra people who normally hang out in Beacon Hill. We had some of the busiest streets all to ourselves.

Still, we weren’t upset that we started off the portrait session with lovely weather and beautiful light. We had free reign and no umbrella for the first bit. So here are a few faves from the earlier part of the session.

Christina and Vincent live in St. Louis and weren’t exactly sure where they wanted to do their session. When we came up with the idea of Beacon Hill, it seemed a great fit. Quintessential Boston and beautiful buildings, a nice match for Christina as she is from the Boston area and works as an architect.

I still can’t believe how quickly those clouds turned the sky to black. What an adventure! And such fun. Many thanks to Christina and Vincent for weathering the storm with us. Can’t wait for your wedding at the Boston Harbor Hotel this summer.
